After a Calgary winter, lawns wake up under a mat of dead leaves, broken branches, pet damage and street gravel. Mowing over that mess just presses it in. A proper spring cleanup in late April sets up the whole season.
The checklist
- Rake out debris first: leaves, twigs and winter gravel along the curb edge โ all of it off the grass before anything else.
- Clear the edges: redefine bed lines and the strip along walks and driveway where sand collected.
- First mow high: take only the top third once growth starts; scalp it now and weeds move in by June.
- Spot-check drainage: downspout exits and low corners that ponded during melt โ regrade or extend before May rains.
When to call it in
If the yard needs bagging and hauling rather than an afternoon with a rake, our seasonal cleanup covers exactly this: raked, bagged and hauled in one visit, spring or fall.
